"I feel like I've got some genuinely really good insight that might have taken me 2-3 years to just land upon by chance."

"We all woke up before the sun,

and congregated in the the main area of the villa, filling our bags with local fruits that I had never seen before laid out on the table. I tried to wipe the sleep from my eyes as one of the other guys made conversation. Playing it off as being tired, I was hoping nobody noticed my nerves about whether I could capture the iconic Nungnung waterfall in a way that would do it any justice.

I had only been to one waterfall before–it was the day before when we went to Tukad Cepung. But that waterfall was small, good for portraits. Nungnung was different. It was massive.

When we arrived, my nerves disappeared, but not because I was confident I could capture it. The waterfall was bigger and closer than I anticipated, but also more beautiful and powerful than I would have ever thought. I saw Jeremiah bury his camera in his t-shirt to protect it from the spray, only and pulling it out long enough to fire off a few low angle shots before quickly covering it again. I did the same for as long as I felt sane, taking shots as I could before shielding my camera again out of fear of water damage. Soon a few of the guys started wading in the water, approaching the fall step by step, shielding their eyes from the spray striking their bodies. The power and beauty drew us all in, and I realized I had never been so struck by a force of nature as to put my camera down and experience it with my whole body.

With the light rays catching my eyes, and the roar of the water flooding my ears, I remember thinking to myself “this is what I want to do for the rest of my life”

I learned so many valuable things but I think one thing that really grabbed my attention was when Jeremiah edited that Instagram video in only 15 minutes. I knew a lot of the tricks he was using but I never applied them. I felt it opened my mind creatively.

Lots of love and respect for Jacob and Jeremiah. They made me realize that anybody can do what they do, as long as we work hard, really hustle, and believe in ourselves.
